Improving Stayton's Streets

The Basics of Street Conditions and Maintenance

Maintenance is essential for the upkeep of essential infrastructure. However, the budget is not infinite and requires prioritization. In this case streets maintenance is pushed to a later date, becoming deferred maintenance, in lieu of other essential maintenance. However, this has a hidden cost, as more time passes the cost to maintain a street will rises as its condition continues to weather and degrade.

Check out our Streets 101: Road to Improvement video to learn more about what street conditions are and how, if continued to be deferred, their cost will impact the City and the community.

Funding for Streets

There are many avenues to secure funding for street maintenance. Normally when financing a City's infrastructure, the funding is supported but the City's budget, but as we mentioned in the previous video there are other essential services that require higher priority for maintenance, causing streets to become deferred maintenance. Which means there needs to additional sources for funding in the form of Adjustments to Rates, Bonds/Loans, Grants, Supplements, and/or Urban Renewal.
