If I Were Mayor Student Contest 2025

Calling all students from Grade 4-12 have you ever thought about what you would do if you were mayor?

 

Enter in Oregon Mayors Association's (OMA) "If I Were Mayor" Student Contest!

The "If I Were a Student" contest invites students to share their creative ideas on how they would improve their city if they were mayor. The contest is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about their city and envision the possibilities of their future.

The deadline for local entries: March 21st, 2025

The contest guidelines include:

  1. You must be enrolled in school within Stayton's city limits.
  2. Students must submit their projects to the city where they are enrolled.
  3. Submissions must have an OMA Entry Form. (Entry Form)
  4. This contest is open to all students, including those enrolled in home-school and alternative academic programs.
  5. Submissions should be emailed by a teacher, parent, or guardian to the city's contest representative. For Stayton that is the Community Engagement Coordinator at csmithrud@staytonoregon.gov.

The contest categories:

Posters - Grades 4-5

  • Students are encouraged to be creative and may use any art medium (paint, felt pens, colored pencils, pastels, crayons, 3D art, etc.).
  • Send a photo of the poster as .PNG, .JPEG or PDF file.
  • Students who win will receive $50 and $50 for their classroom.

Essays - Grades 6-8 

  • Essays must be 500-1,000 words in length and typed.
  • Formats: Word, PDF, or PowerPoint.
  • Students who win will receive $100 and $100 for their classroom. 

Digital Media Presentations - Grade 9-12 

  • Presentations must be one to three minutes in length and submitted via email.
  • Formats: MP4 or online video format.
  • Students who win will receive $150 and $150 for their classroom.

 

 

Additional information

All submission must include an OMA Entry Form (see above) and email by a parent/teacher/guardian to the Community Engagement Coordinator at csmithrud@staytonoregon.gov.
