As part of the waterline improvement work along Shaff Road, around thirty house connections have been completed as of this afternoon and have been transferred to a new water distribution system. These homes, all located along Shaff Road (between N. Evergreen Ave and N. First Ave) may experience temporary dirty water in their home’s water distribution system.
To resolve the potential dirty water issue, residents can turn on their cold water faucets for a period of five to ten minutes, until the water runs clear. We recommend that this flushing takes place before using the hot water system, to avoid dirt in hot water tanks.
Any visible dirt is most likely coming from internal plumbing, having been stopped and started, causing a water hammer effect. It is possible that filters in faucets may become blocked with dirt. If this is the case, removing and rinsing filters will resolve this issue.
The new main line system has been flushed and disinfected and it is very unlikely to have contaminated water.
