It's National Library Week! Here's what's happening...

April 4-10, 2021 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The theme for this year’s National Library Week is “Welcome to your library,” which promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building and that everyone is welcome to use their services. Whether people visit virtually or in person, libraries are accessible and inclusive places that foster a sense of belonging and community through learning, discovery and exploration.

During these challenging times, libraries of all types have been going above and beyond to adapt to our changing world by expanding their resources and continuing to meet the needs of their patrons. Below is a highlight of some of the ways that Stayton Public Library is doing that!

Curbside Checkout-

Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday we offer curbside service. People can place holds and make appointments online or over the phone, then pick up their materials. For more information visit http://www.staytonoregon.gov/page/library_pickup or call 503-769-3313.

Miss Browsing? Here’s how we can help-
Staff are working individually with people to offer a more personalized experience. We have created options for patrons to receive customized reading suggestions, surprise bags, and more including our children’s chapter book program “Book Bistro To Go”.

Virtual Storytimes & Early Literacy resources-

  • Every Tuesday we offer virtual storytimes over Zoom. In addition, staff are creating an accompanying online option that can be explored at each family’s pace.
  • Library Staff have created an online portal where parents and caregivers can find early literacy resources.
  • We have a Storyline! Anyone at any time can call 503-769-2408 to hear a story read by Library staff.
  • “Storytime Unplugged” printed options are available. Call us 503-769-3313.

Wi-Fi and Hotspots-

  • Expanded wifi - With the help of SCTC we have expanded our WiFii so that is accessible throughout the Library’s parking lot.
  • Mobile hotspots - We now have Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots to check out through curbside pickup. These mobile hotspots are made possible through funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and in cooperation with Chemeketa Community College and Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service.

Need Printing, Scanning, and Copying?

  • Email us documents that need to be printed and we will print them and bring them out to our curbside service table.
  • We can also scan to an email or make copies.

Monthly Take and Make kits-
Each month we provide Take & Make activity kits for children, teens, and adults in a drive-thru event. If people miss out on the kits, materials lists and instructions are posted on our website.
