    In celebration of 250 years of America, the City of Stayton invites community members to take part in Stayton's America 250 Volunteer Challenge - a collective effort to give back and make a lasting impact.

    Challenge:
    The City is calling on residents to come together and contribute volunteer hours* in honor of this historic milestone.

    Prizes:
    Top Volunteer (Most Hours Submitted**) - Win a $50 gift card and ride on the City of Stayton's 4th of July Float with a guest 
    Community Champion (Greatest Variety of Volunteer Opportunities Submitted**): Win a $50 gift card

    *While participants do not have to be a resident of Stayton, we encourage that at least some of your volunteer hours benefit the Stayton community. Stayton’s hours will be submitted to America250, to be included in the nation’s total.

    • Fall 2026 Salmon Watch Volunteer Sign Up* (Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District)   
      • Date and time: September 14 - October 2, approx. 4 hours (training on August 26)
      • Location: Packsaddle County Park, North Santiam County Park, Spongs County Park
      • Tasks: teach one of the following stations on the field trips:
        • Salmon Biology: salmon life cycle, dissection, and cultural importance
        • Macroinvertebrates: collection and identification
        • Water Quality: dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, and turbidity 
        • Riparian ecology: riparian functions (habitat, erosion control, shade, and water storage & filtration)
        • Service Learning: TBD at North Santiam County Park and Spongs Landing County Park. It might supplement part of the riparian ecology and salmon lifecycle stations. No dissection will be offered at these two sites. More details coming in July
