November 8, 2022 General Election

City Council

At the 2022 General Election, the positions of the Mayor and three Councilors will appear on the ballot. The filing period for interested candidates begins on June 1, 2022. The filing process must be completed by August 25, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.

  • Open Positions

     

    The Mayor and Council members are elected to four-year terms. The following positions have terms ending this year:

     

    Mayor position currently held by Henry Porter
    Council position currently held by Paige Hook
    Council position currently held by Jordan Ohrt
    Council position currently held by David Patty

     

    • All positions are non-partisan.
    • Council positions are elected at large – meaning candidates may reside in any area inside the Stayton city limits.
    • All positions are volunteer / non-paid.
    • All terms will begin on January 3, 2023.

     

    Qualifications and Residency Requirements

     

    • Council members must be a qualified elector under state law, and reside within the city for at least one year immediately before election or appointment to office.
    • No person may be a candidate at a single election for more than one city office.
    • Neither the mayor nor a councilor may be employed by the city.
    • The council is the final judge of the election and qualifications of elected officials.
  • The City of Stayton follows the state guidelines for Candidates Filing by Nominating Petition (Candidate Elections Manual pages 21-23). The referenced filing forms are linked on this page, as well as available for download  in the Forms section of this page. Elections Manuals are produced by the Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division and can be found on their website at www.sos.state.or.us.

     

    Filing Requirements

     

    If you wish to file candidacy for Mayor or Councilor, the form below is required. No filing fees are required to run for City of Stayton offices. Guidelines for completion of this form can be found in the Candidate Elections Manual, page 21-22.

     

     

    The completed SEL 101 form must be submitted to the City Elections Officer via one of the following methods prior to the filing deadline:

     

    • A scanned copy of your form may be submitted via email to aangelo@staytonoregon.gov
    • A paper copy may be dropped off at City Hall between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Or you may mail a your completed form to:

    The complete filing process must be completed by August 25, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. It is strongly recommended you submit the above form well in advance of this date.

  • Candidates have the opportunity to place a candidate statement in the Marion County Voter Pamphlet. There is a filing fee and applications must be submitted directly to the Marion County Elections Division.

     

    As of June 1, an updated Voters Pamphlet Candidate Statement Form has not been posted by Marion County. Once one is made available, we will post on this page.
