Stayton Public Library announces it's Summer Reading Program "Reading Colors Your World"
05/24/2021
Stayton Public Library launches its Summer Reading Program on June 21, 2021 and will run through August 14, 2021. During those next two months, the library will have a range of free activities for children, teens, and adults to encourage and support a love of reading and earn them chances to win prizes.

Families and individuals will have the opportunity to log their reading and activities on paper, or in an online platform that will earn them digital badges, keep up-to-date with the calendar, play games, find book lists, and more! Some of the activities planned will include virtual performers, weekly STEAM activities for kids and teens (plus some special ones for adults too!) and Storytime in the park.

The theme for 2021 is “Reading Colors Your World” and focuses on colors and the many ways that reading can expand your world through kindness, growth, and community. Participants will be encouraged to get creative, try new things, explore art, and find beauty in diversity.

There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading over the summer prevents summer reading loss. Children who don’t read during the summer can lose up to two months of learning by the time they return to school in the fall.

Families and individuals will be able to sign up online to participate and log through our online portal and app which will be available at staytonlibrary.org beginning June 21. People interested in a paper option can call 503-769-3313 after June 21.
